Welcome to Silver Edge Volume 10 – our fortnightly newsletter for mid-level managers and future-ready leaders looking to turn insight into action.
In Volume 9, we explored how small daily habits help build relationship capital — the quiet kind of trust that shows up when you need it most.
But building is just one part.
What about sustaining those connections—especially in today’s digital-first, attention-fragmented world?
That’s what we explore in Volume 10:
The Relationship Flywheel.
A low-effort, high-trust rhythm to help you stay connected without chasing.
Happy Learning & Leading!

Let’s be honest.
You can’t follow up with everyone all the time.
But you can set a flywheel in motion that keeps you present—even when you’re not around.
Why a Flywheel Wins Over Follow-Ups
In BNI, I learnt that Givers Gain® isn’t just a motto—it’s a system.
Weekly meetings. Structured referrals. Long-term trust.
It works because it’s not built on hustle.
It’s built on rhythm.
And that’s your takeaway:
Relationships thrive when they’re nurtured with structure—not just sentiment.
You don’t need 100 coffee catch-ups.
You need a repeatable system that keeps your connections alive.
5 High-Impact Flywheel Habits
These actions are designed to help you sustain visibility, build trust, and spark new energy—even when you're not in constant contact.
1. Set “Auto Check-in” Triggers
Every time someone pops into your mind—don’t ignore it.
Set a 60-day calendar reminder right then.
✅ Pro Tip: Add a note about what reminded you of them.
“You mentioned a CX launch last time—how did it go?”
2. Track Referrals You Gave (Not Just Received)
Start a mini log:
Who you referred
What it was for
Outcome (if known)
✅ Check in with both parties 30 days later.
Why?
Giving builds gravity.
And people remember those who keep the loop going.
3. Create a “Connector’s List”
Every month, find 2 people in your network who should know each other.
Introduce them without waiting to be asked.
“Thought you both might hit it off—both of you love building team culture.”
✅ Bonus: Do this without any agenda. Just value.
4. Build a “People Page” in Your Notes App
Whenever someone mentions:
A passion project
A child’s name
A personal milestone
Note it.
Next time you reach out, reference it.
5. Use “Personal Patterns” to Time Check-ins
Instead of checking in randomly, build around known patterns:
Birthday month
Work anniversaries
Project closure months
“It’s usually around May you wrap that annual review — how’s it going?”
✅ This makes your check-in feel natural, not scheduled.
Quick Quiz: How Flywheel-Ready Are You?
Give 1 point for each question to yourself if you do so.
Do you check in with dormant contacts regularly?
Do you make introductions without being asked?
Do you follow up on referrals you gave?
Do you have a personal system to track touchpoints?
Do people ever say “Wow—you remembered that?”
✅ Score 4–5: You’ve got momentum.
✅ Score 2–3: Time to build your rhythm.
✅ Score 0–1: Let’s start your flywheel this week.

Relationship “warmth” level
“You don’t need to be loud. You just need to be consistent.”
In a noisy world, trust is built in the quiet follow-ups, thoughtful nudges, and unexpected generosity.
Start small.
Stay steady.
The flywheel will do the rest.
